Goal setting

Goal number ONE: Rededicate myself to learning from my children and recording the lessons learned!

Last night for FHE we had a lesson on goals as we talked about the Carter goals for the rest of the year (so we started a month a late...at least we started!) Brooke was in charge of the lesson, so I told her to ask if anyone knew what a goal was. Viana raised her hand and said, "A goal is something that you really want that you have to work hard to earn." I was blown away! I wrote it down right away because it was so succinct and perfect. With such a good understanding our family discussion went really well after that!

Choosing righteousness, Holy Ghost

Today we were watching a movie and Viana asked me why a character we thought was good was revealed to actually be a bad guy. I told her that he was jealous and sad and that is why he became a bad guy. She then said to me, "I get jealous and sad sometimes, but I'm not a bad guy." I told her that is because she was still able to choose to be good.
Tonight during FHE Viana was teaching the lesson and she bore her testimony that the Holy Ghost can help her to chose what the right things she should do are even when she feels sad.

I was so happy to see Viana applying our discussions and her real life to the gospel principles she is learning, and that she can recognize how to make good choices.

Book of Mormon, Family Home Evening

Since we were traveling on Saturday, we missed both AM and PM sessions of General Conference. So, for family night we decided we would listen to a talk. We started with Elder Richard G. Scott's talk. He spoke about the scriptures and the love he has for them and the strengthening of testimony he gets from them. Daniel and Ally, of course, were kind of wiggly and didn't seem to pay much attention to what was being said. In fact, they both got up and wandered around at one point. I started having one of those, "why do we even try" moments. After Elder Scott finished, LaDon asked Ally, "Do you know what Elder Scott talked about?" and to my utter surprise and joy she quickly responded, "The Book of Mormon!" So....although FHE is a struggle sometimes, it really is important and our kids are learning.
