Church

Ally and Daniel have really been into coloring lately. Like, more than usual. Yesterday, while we were coloring Ally drew a picture of herself, a lovely round faced stick figure, and then gave some commentary.

A: "This is me saying to all the people: Come on. The Church is this way. We will go to Church!" Looks at her picture real quick to discover that there was no Church building in her picture! "Oh wait, I need to make a Church building first."

She then draws a beautiful purple Church building and repeats the commentary. She then continued the drawing with tear drops because Daniel had yelled at her and made her sad that he made a bad choice. Haha....living art I guess!
(far left: purple Church building. top: brown rain cloud and rain drops. center: brown stick figured Ally with an umbrella(brown circle), purple tear drops on her face.)
Anyways, it made me smile that she was so excited to show the "people" which way the Church building was. I think she really does like going to Church and is excited when others come too.

Missionary Work

Clearly, I've been in a blogging funk. Well, here's to kicking off a more successful blogging drive!

Tonight we had the missionaries over for dinner. They are both relatively new to the ward, so our kids really have had no interactions with them. They whole hour they were over Ally talked and talked and talked to them like they were her best friends. As they got up to leave, Daniel said, "Bye! I love you!" and then they ran to the door to watch them leave. As they walked down the driveway, Ally shouted out, "I love you SO much!" I gotta think that the only reason they were so open and receptive to the missionaries is because of the spirit that they bring with them....either that or Ally has a crush on Elder Carpenter.

Missionary Work

Today while sitting in sacrament meeting, Ally was flipping through our Sacrament ABC's book and telling LaDon about each letter. She came to the M page. On that page there is a picture of a companionship of elders and a brief description about missionaries and the role they play in the Gospel. Ally turned to LaDon and said, "It's the missionaries. They come to my house to eat dinner!" I quietly giggled then asked her, "Do you know what else they do?" "They eat dinner!" "Actually, they teach people about Jesus Christ."
So....Ally didn't really know what missionaries are exactly, but she did recognize that they come to our house to have dinner. So, I think she probably knows that missionaries are young men and women that we are to support temporally, in some ways. More importantly, we are to support them by finding people for them to teach. Hopefully, our family will get better at having friends for the missionaries to teach so that Ally and Daniel will be able to say, "They teach people the gospel" vs. "They eat dinner!" Either way, we like having the missionaries around.

Finding the one

Brooke came and told me that she could not find Strawberry--one of her favorite barbies. I told her I had seen her somewhere and to keep looking. Normally when I send the kids off to look for a toy they find so many other toys, get distracted, and forget about the initial one. I thought this was the case because Brooke was gone for a long time. So much so that I had forgotten she was looking for Strawberry. Some time later she came running to me shouting with much jubilation, "I found Strawberry, I found Strawberry!" This toy was so important to her that she was willing to set all else aside and go and find her.
How easy is it for me to lose focus of what I really want or what is really important? I need to remember to stay persistent and consistent.
